The Cook County Clerk’s Office has conducted a ballot position lottery for the top and bottom ballot spots in suburban school board elections that will be held this upcoming April.

Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough held the lottery on Tuesday, Dec. 27, to determine ballot positions for candidates in 79 school board contests who filed before 8 a.m. on the first day of candidate filing, and for two candidates who filed in the last hour of filing in an attempt to win the first and last ballot spots.

Candidates vying for the top and bottom ballot spots were put in alphabetical order and assigned a letter which was drawn and recorded by Clerk Yarbrough and Election Candidate Services Manager Colleen Gleason.

A total of 662 candidates filed with the Clerk’s Office to run for school board posts in the April 4 Consolidated Election. Candidates not included in the ballot position lottery will appear on the ballot in the order in which they filed. Ballot order for municipal, park, library, and other districts will be determined by the jurisdiction in which they seek office.
