Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough teamed up with the American League Central Champion Chicago White Sox to mark National Voter Registration Day, and fans who attended the Sox game were able to check in with the Clerk’s Office during the game to register to vote.

Yarbrough joined thousands of other elections officials across the country to mark National Voter Registration Day, an annual day of action that brings volunteers and organizations out for coordinated field, technology, and media efforts to register voters and raise awareness of state-specific registration policies, deadlines, and voting information.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Chicago White Sox for this important opportunity to reach fans who would like to register to vote in Cook County,” said Yarbrough.  “We encouraged fans who attended the game to step up to the plate and register to vote so that they have the tools they need to participate in our democracy.”

The Clerk’s Office had a voter registration table set up in the concourse at Guaranteed Rate Field, where fans could scan a QR Code and obtain election and voting information in a total of 12 languages.  Under Yarbrough’s leadership, the Clerk’s Office last year expanded ballot languages to ensure that as many eligible voters as possible have access to the ballot in the language of their choice.  In addition to English and Spanish, the languages include Arabic, Chinese, Gujarati, Hindi, Korean, Polish, Russian, Tagalog, Ukrainian and Urdu.

According to U.S. Census data from 2020, as many as one in four eligible Americans are not registered to vote.  Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, fail to update their registration, or are not sure how to register.  National Voter Registration Day, held the fourth Tuesday of September each year, is designed to fire up grass roots efforts to expand voter registration in communities across the nation.
