Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough teamed up with the Chicago White Sox, September 20 to mark National Voter Registration Day, and fans attending tonight’s Sox game will be able to check in with the Clerk’s Office before or during the game to register to vote.

Yarbrough has joined thousands of other election officials across the country to mark National Voter Registration Day, an annual day of action that brings volunteers and organizations out for coordinated field, technology, and media efforts to register voters and raise awareness of state-specific registration policies, deadlines, and voting information.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Chicago White Sox for this important opportunity to reach fans who would like to register to vote in Cook County,” said Yarbrough. “We are encouraging fans attending tonight’s game to get in the game and register to vote so that they have the tools they need to participate in our democracy.”

The Clerk’s Office will have a voter registration table set up in the concourse at Guaranteed Rate Field in section 155, where fans can scan a QR Code and obtain election and voting information in a total of 12 languages. Under Yarbrough’s leadership, the Clerk’s Office has recently upgraded e-pollbooks and expanded ballot languages to ensure that as many eligible voters as possible have access to the ballot in the language of their choice. In addition to English and Spanish, the languages include Arabic, Chinese, Gujarati, Hindi, Korean, Polish, Russian, Tagalog, Ukrainian, and Urdu.

According to U.S. Census data from 2020, as many as one in four eligible Americans are not registered to vote. Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, fail to update their registration, or are not sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day, held on the fourth Tuesday of September each year, is
designed to fire up grassroots efforts to expand voter registration in communities across the nation.

Chicago and suburban Cook County voters who will not be attending tonight’s game can simply visit cookcountyclerk.com/RTV to register to vote in advance of the November 8, 2022, Gubernatorial Election.
