Candidate filing for Cook County races in the 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election will kick off on Monday, March 7, with candidates vying for coveted top spots on the ballot expected to begin lining up as early as 6 a.m. for the first day of filing, according to the Office of Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough.
Dozens of candidates are expected to submit their nominating petitions when the Clerk’s Office officially opens the filing period at 9 a.m. next Monday for the June 28 Primary Election.
Any candidate or their representative present in line prior to the start of filing at 9 a.m. will be entered into a Ballot Position Lottery in late March to determine the top spot on the ballot in each respective race if there is more than one candidate running in that race.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Monday, March 14 to submit their nominating petitions to the Clerk’s Office.

WHERE: Cook County Administration Building, 69 W. Washington St., Lower Level, City of Chicago Board of Election Commissioners Pedway room.
WHO: Candidates running for the following offices are required to submit their paperwork to the Clerk’s Office:
- President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners
- Cook County Clerk
- Cook County Treasurer
- Cook County Sheriff
- Cook County Assessor
- Cook County Commissioner (Districts 1 – 17)
- Cook County Board of Review (Districts 1 – 3)
- Water Reclamation District Commissioner (Three 6-year terms and one two-year)
- Township Committeeperson
All other candidates will file with the Illinois State Board of Elections.
MORE: Media will be allowed in the candidate filing room to photograph and film candidate filing at Stations 1 and 2 ONLY. The Clerk’s Office will also have a media room available for interviews.
The Clerk’s Office will post an updated candidate filing list daily throughout the candidate filing period. A complete list of candidates will be available after filing closes on March 14 and all scanning and processing of petitions have been completed.
