Marriage Equality - Journey to 10k Campaign

After decades of Americans’ fight for LGBT rights, Illinois became the 16th state to embrace full marriage equality in late 2013. Prior to the law taking effect, Cook County became the first in Illinois to allow same-sex couples to wed in February of 2014.

Since then, the Cook County Clerk’s office has issued nearly 10,000 marriage licenses to same-sex couples and we expect to issue the 10,000th sometime this summer.

As we approach that historic milestone, the Clerk’s office is celebrating the journey from the 1st to the 10,000th couple and acknowledging a number of the milestones along the way. We are calling the summer-long celebration of marriage equality the #JourneyTo10k. So join us in the celebration to honor every couple who played a part in marriage equality history.
