Candidate filing for suburban school board positions in the April 2023 Consolidated Election has concluded, with 662 candidates filing to run during the one-week filing period, according to the Office of Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough.

The Clerk’s Office conducted filing for school board contenders from December 12 through December 19 and will now begin processing all nominating papers to certify candidates and determine ballot position.

Clerk Yarbrough said her office is pleased with the number of candidates who have filed and is hoping that suburban residents recognize the importance of casting their ballots in local elections.

“Local election contests sometimes get overlooked, but they really are consequential when it comes to the management of our local schools, park districts, libraries, and municipalities,” said Yarbrough. “It’s great to see so many individuals stepping up to serve and we will be looking forward to the Consolidated elections in 2023.”

A list of all candidates who filed to run for school district positions in suburban Cook County can be found on the Clerk’s Candidate Filing page.

Any candidate who was in line to file their paperwork by 8 a.m. on the first day of filing will be entered into a lottery to win top placement on the ballot. Candidates for the same office who filed between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the last day of filing will also be included in a ballot lottery for the last spot on the ballot.

Anyone who filed between 8:01 a.m. on December 12 and 3:59 p.m. on December 19 will be on the ballot in the order in which they turned in their nomination paperwork.

Candidates running for other local offices besides school boards such as towns, villages, townships, library districts, college districts, fire protection districts, and park boards, must file candidate paperwork with the municipality in which they are seeking election.
